Medical Cannabis

“Creating a legal and regulated marijuana market is the best way to ensure public safety” quoted by Paige in her blog Medical Cannabis: 21 states to go. In her blog she identifies some ways that America could benefit from legalizing cannabis, noticing that she and I share the same views. Paige had substantial view points for an example, she stated “Marijuana is a much safer alternative to pharmaceuticals, to relieve chronic pain associated with these illnesses. Also, with medical cannabis, patients can reap the benefits of managing their symptoms without having to worry about addiction, overdose or, serious side effects that aren't worth the risk of pharmaceutical drugs.” Using the US Government Accountability office to support her claims made her argument very strong. This blog was well-written and I agree with her to the fullest in regards to legalizing cannabis and the positive impact it could possibly have on America. What I enjoyed the most about this is it was short and very informational, she explained why she thought it was a good idea and then provided credible evidence that supported her claims and claims from the medical stand point.

North Korea Nuclear Activity

In the article "U.S want more U.N Sanctions" Donald Trump and the Chinese President Xi Jinping have formal conversations regarding the actions of North Korea. Trumps expressed to Twitter that "when North Korea fired their nuclear missile, in which was unsuccessful, disrespected the Chinese President." American feels as if this issue should be resolved immediately, by ending its nuclear weapons programs period. But Trump feels as if these matters could be resolved by bargaining directly with North Korea.

Bargaining to me isn't what best for the nation, at least in my opinion. Trump has a very short temper and I feel like if an agreement can't be formed between the two nation's there would be catastrophic measures. If we look at the constant changes and issues that we've been facing since electing Mr.Trump, I believe its safe to say we all know bargaining about something that doesn't benefit him, isn't going to go well.

North Korea launched a missile, although it may have been unsuccessful what were their intentions? Who were their targets? Most of all what message were they trying to send? America feels as if it was a statement "to show its defiance of international power." Only to receive news Friday that North Korea will soon be able to strike the United States, therefore since this information was presented by the Security Council. I believe that Trump, should take the nation into consideration and eliminate the nuclear programs instead of bargaining. It seems to me that North Korea has their mind made up and have no intention in coming to an agreement with Trump.

Thus in "U.S want more U.N Sanctions" informs us of the threat from North Korea and how Donald Trump plans on resolving the matter, which is by bargaining. I don't totally agree with this resolution and apparently my fellow Americans don't either, so where do we go from here?

Governments Issue

America does have a war on drugs, as Langston Hill stated in his blog "My Problem With The Gov". Emphasizing that the war is simply stupid, and elaborating on the benefits of marijuana. Hill expressed his confusion on some of the states legalizing marijuana, but why not all? The government doesn't like losing I presume, although we've seen through the years that this war can not and will not be won. I believe that America has hope that in the war on drugs, no matter how long it takes that they will come out on top. I also believe that since a lot of people come to America for a better opportunities, its away for them to say "hey, we don't condone drugs here." Canada, Mexico, Italy, have all legalized weed, but yet thousands of people still move to America. I agree with Langston Hill regarding the war is stupid, and that marijuana has many uses. What about the overuse? I think that we only focus on the benefits, and how it can benefit us so much that, we don't look at the negative outcomes if marijuana is overused. How can society abuse the use of marijuana if legal, what negative effects could it have on America?

Therefore in "My Problem With The Gov" I do share the concept in which it portrays, but it also made me ask myself, what are the negative outcomes. How can legalizing marijuana in America make a negative impact on the nation?

America Can Benefit

How can legalizing marijuana benefit America? Marijuana is legalized in twenty-eight states. In these states, they have not only profited it but some states have been able to lower their crime rate. I personally feel like the government should legalize marijuana in all fifty states because it could be very beneficial, we could potentially boost our revenue, use less money on organized crime, and reduce the number of offenders we place in jail for drugs.

The government spends a great amount of money on prisons, county jails, organized crime, and the war on drugs. Instead of wasting these funds on issues that don’t require large amounts of money, why not spend it on getting America out of debt or providing low income families with affordable health insurance. There are so many things America needs, and the government chooses to use funds on things that aren’t benefiting America or its people. According to the Youth Leader Blog, Law enforcement would be able to focus on violent crimes instead of arresting and filling prisons with drug offenders, and the police officers could potentially take drug dealers out of business.

Therefore, I agree with the legalization in the twenty-eight states and would fully support the government if and when they grant legalization in the next twenty-two states, because we could potentially profit from it and use the additional funds where it’s needed in America. The United States and American people could all benefit from the legalization of marijuana, whether it’s using recreational to treat cancer or controlling the use of marijuana for safety reasons.

Repeal and Replace

VP Pence announces that the Obamacare will be repaired and replaced by the spring. Pence ensures that Donald Trump is a man of his word, since he stated that when elected into office the first priority would be to repeal and replace Obamacare. So far our healthcare system is the same and the government has only been ensuring us that changes are coming. VP Pence released a statement saying "if there are ways to improve that bill and to give people greater confidence that we all are going to arrive at the same place ... then that's where we're headed." According to the FOX News the American people aren’t satisfied with the healthcare that Obama put in place, because they either couldn’t keep their doctor, the cost went up, or simply because they lost their insurance.

Using all the promises that Obamacare presented and didn’t deliver, the VP tends to team up with the health and human services administration to make changes so that our Americans could potentially have affordable healthcare.  This article “Obamacare replacement will be'all done by this spring” was a very informative, it expressed all the things that needed to be replaced and why. It ensured hope for the American citizens. For people like me that had to get Community care because we didn’t feel like Obamacare was useful, and very expensive. We felt like we’ve lost out insurance and support, Although I haven’t seen a reason to support Donald and Pence’s actions. This one i'm actually for, because I feel like some hope will be restored and the promises that couldn’t be delivered by Obamacare will soon be delivered once repealed and replaced. Donald Trump hated Obamacare which is the only reason his action is to improve what he feels is broken.

Do They Really Care About Healthcare?

In the article “Setting the record straight on value of palliativecare” expresses the view points on how people feel on getting care for families and individuals diagnosed with life-threatening and serious illnesses. There has been debates on healthcare, but Ted Cruz has claimed that Palliative care must go, and that just because we because we are able to do everything doesn’t mean we should. How can he say this? Kids don’t asked to be born with life-threatening diseases, people don’t ask to be diagnosed with serious illness in their lifetime. These things just kind of happen, and I’m pretty sure if anyone had to encounter these measures whether its them, child, or family member they would want the support or some kind of care specialized specifically for that condition. Ted Cruz has no sympathy because maybe he’s never been in the situation, he states again “just because we can do everything, doesn’t mean we should.” This right here shows me that repairing Obamacare isn’t just about reforming healthcare, but actually taking it from the people that need it the most.

Families believe that palliative care, should always be available. For the babies that born in life-threatening situations or elders that about to pass due to serious illnesses, the public says that “the focus isn’t on death but on life.” I understand this completely cause I have a child and something life changing would happen to him, I would hope to have the support from my healthcare plan. In the article, Barbara Jones, takes the sides for the Americans instead of the government, she explains how we benefit from the palliative and healthcare. Comparing the beliefs of the government to what she believes and how Americans utilize palliative care, I agree with author that the government doesn’t care about people just about making money.

Immigration Operations in Texas

On Friday, The Federal government has confirmed to a Texas congressman that specialized operations are being conducted in the Austin area to capture unauthorized immigrants that have criminal backgrounds. According, to American Statesman the targeted operations known as Cross Check are taking place in Central and South Texas. As of Thursday, Austin had detained at least 14 immigrants followed by detaining an additional 30 more the next day. Carlos GutiĆ©rrez, Mexico’s consul general in Austin, said his office has seen a “clearly visible uptick” in detentions of Mexican immigrants by federal immigration. City Council Member Greg Casar called these actions “reprehensible” acts of “retribution” from Gov. Greg Abbott, and President Donald Trump, but many Americans feel like this is the government's retaliation for the “No ban, No wall” protests.

This article is important for students to peruse because they need to be more aware of what’s going on around them, especially since this could potentially affect many families. These federal government officials are putting families, communities, and children in fear.
